ACL Injuries Affect Our Kids, Families, and Schools

An ACL tear is a serious injury. Unfortunately, ACL injuries have become increasingly common, especially among young female athletes. If you or someone in your family has not already been affected, you probably know someone who has. ACL injuries are painful. In addition to the immediate physical pain that accompanies ligament rupture, there is the pain of the injured individual's disappointment over being sidelined from sports, the competitive disadvantage of losing an team athlete, the expense of medical treatment, and, for our high school seniors, potential loss of athletic scholarship opportunities.

In Los Gatos, the high rate of competition-level participation by our high-school kids in all sports, and especially in girl's soccer, makes our community especially vulnerable to this problem. Almost every coach of a sport played on a court or field here in Los Gatos has experienced the disappointment of losing a player to ACL injury.

At Physical Therapy of Los Gatos, we're concerned about the rising incidence of ACL tear injuries among the young athletes in our community. That's why we created this web site and offer specific programs for reducing the incidence of ACL injury.
