Risk Evaluation

While no test can positively identify which athletes will suffer ACL injuries and which will not, researchers have determined that the risk of ACL injury can be predicted according to a combination of criteria that includes jump strength, landing strength, and the way the athlete's body generates and absorbs forces of acceleration and deceleration. Risk evaluation includes the "drop-jump" test, which enables our staff to examine lower limb alignment relative to hip separation distance as the athlete accelerates and decelerates. The drop-jump test is recorded on videotape to enable stop-motion frame-by-frame videographic analysis of each athlete.

ACL injury risk evaluation takes about ten minutes per athlete and can be conducted using equipment that Physical Therapy of Los Gatos brings to the court or field.
